I am pleased to present the Scientific Report 2016-2017 of the Fondazione IRCCS Istituto Nazionale Tumori. The report takes into consideration the assessment carried out by the Scientific Directorate of the years 2016-2017, at the end of the 2013-16 Research Plan. The Report also introduces the new strategic directions towards 4 novel research lines:

• Primary and secondary prevention, and early diagnosis
• Precision medicine and technological innovation
• Complexity and rare tumors
• Outcome Research and Big Data

The new four research lines intend to offer a strong guidance and planning in line with INT mission and current clinical needs and priorities.
