We have designed a study to assay the diagnostic (and eventually prognostic) value of plasma miRNAs we have identified as linked to CRC presence in individuals at higher risk of CRC, in CRC patients at surgery (diagnostic) and at the scheduled follow up after surgery (prognostic). For each individual we are collecting plasma at surgery and every 6-months-1 year over four years of follow up, for a total of six samples/patient . A qPCR assay based on the digital PCR technology will be used to evaluate the performance of the miRNAs and results will be matched with the clinical records over time.  The output of this task could allow an estimation of the performance of the miRNAs-based as a first step to set up a promising easy-to-use kit that could be transferred in the clinical setting.
